One thing I've always wondered: Why does Vernon wear less armour than his men?
He wears a gambesson with apparently mail underneath (which is rare, but some did wear it in between two layers of gambesson) and he wears some elbow protection (which has a really low priority speaking of protection from enemies, but if you throw yourself in the dirt often, then elbows and knees would deserve protection, but that's more of a modern thing). I really love his Chaperone (basically a lirupipe hood worn deliberately the wrong way), but it offers not much more protection than what other soldiers wore underneath their helmet.
